Explanation of term

Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to measures and strategies that help increase the visibility of a website in search engines. In our context, SEO enables optimized job ads to appear before other job ads in search engine results such as Google, Bing, and Ecosia.

Configuration

Search engine optimization for job ads primarily occurs in our system during publication by using page titles and short descriptions as well as optimized publication texts. See: Job Publication - create and Short Description

System Behavior

  • Page Title
The page title is the headline of your job ad as it appears in search engines, such as Google.
  • Short Description
The short description is a brief text summarizing the content of the webpage. It is often displayed in search engine results to give users a quick overview of the page content.
You can have the short description generated by artificial intelligence.

  • Influencing Job Ad Ranking
Generally, it's very difficult to achieve a good search engine ranking for job ads. This is partly because they are usually only temporarily available and contain few backlinks.
However, there are ways to influence the visibility of job ads.
Here is a small selection without claiming completeness:
    • Keywords in the title, short description, and main content of the job ad.
    • Page Title and Short Description (Meta Description).
    • Use of structured data:
We automatically pass the contents of your job ad in the format desired by Google for structured data.
    • Mobile Optimization:
Our job ads are optimized for display on different devices (Responsive Design).
    • Linking to other relevant job ads or career pages.
    • Permanent Landing Pages for recurring or frequently advertised positions.
    • Regularly Updated Content for job ads and career pages.
    • Fast Loading Times:
You can influence this yourself by keeping the size of images as small as possible.
    • Avoiding Duplicates:
Each job ad and its text should be unique.
  • Excluding Job Ads
Good search engine optimization also includes excluding job ads that are not intended for external viewing from Google and others. For example, internal positions.
You can easily do this in the Application Portal by setting the option Visible to Search Engines to No. This informs search engines that they should not index this page or include it in their search results.
  • Implementation

  • Accesses from the USA
By the way, if you notice an increased access rate from the USA or more specifically from Silicon Valley, it might be because companies like Google, Indeed, and others are headquartered there. They often access career pages to crawl them and display the jobs on their own pages.

How Our Customers Use This

The amount of attention our customers pay to search engine optimization of their job ads varies greatly. However, it can help to stand out positively from competing companies, as applicants also benefit from the content of optimized ads. Not only might they see them higher up in the results list, but they are also easier to read and create a better connection to the company.
